common questions

search missed a photo i know is there

memoe gets your newest 1,000 photos ready first, newest first, and then the videos taken since. the status on home shows how far along it is, and you, under your library, says it in plain sentences: how many photos and videos memoe has looked at, how many are waiting for Wi-Fi to come from iCloud, and how many are older than the free plan reads. you can keep searching while it works. older photos can still be found by date, place and favorites, and memoe pro covers your whole library.

if part of your sentence shows up as a can’t search chip, that part wasn’t applied. try saying it more simply, like “dogs at the beach”, or go back to home and ask again.

search in another language

type on home in the language you use, or mix languages in one sentence. memoe works out what you mean and searches the way it would for the English sentence. the app and its replies stay in English.

two things stay as written. people keep the names you gave them in people, so search for someone by that name, and words printed in a photo are matched as they are printed there. if part of a sentence still shows up as can’t search, say it again in simpler words.

i can’t find a video i know is there

memoe reads a video on your phone, from the poster picture Photos keeps and, when the file is already on the phone, a couple of frames from inside it. it never downloads a video just to search it, so one that lives only in iCloud waits until its poster is on the phone. the free plan searches the videos taken since its oldest searched photo, and memoe pro searches every video. you, under your library, says how many videos memoe has looked at, how many are waiting and how many are older than the free plan reads.

if you ask for “photos”, no videos come back. ask for “videos”, or name neither, to get them. to find someone in a video, search for their name once you have named them.

memoe says photos are waiting for Wi-Fi

some of your photos live only in iCloud, and memoe waits for Wi-Fi to bring them down so it can read them. it carries on by itself when you are on Wi-Fi. to bring them down over cellular data now, tap use cellular data on home, or switch on download photos over cellular in you. in Low Data Mode memoe waits either way.

i deleted photos and want them back

deleted photos and videos wait in recently deleted for 30 days. open the Photos app, tap albums, scroll down to recently deleted, choose the photos, and tap recover.

some photos won’t delete

Photos doesn’t let any app delete photos that are managed somewhere else, for example ones synced from a computer. memoe keeps those, tells you how many, and takes them out of the delete pile. you can remove them from where they are managed.

name someone, or fix a mix-up

search for a name memoe doesn’t know yet, like “mom at the beach”, and it asks who’s mom? tap their face, and the name is saved on your phone only. then the search runs.

to check or change who is who, open the people tab. same person? shows pairs memoe isn’t sure about, and you answer different, unsure or same. everyone lists the people memoe has found. tap a person to see their photos, change their name or make an album of them.

suggest names from my contacts, or stop

open you, tap people from your contacts, and choose the contacts memoe may use. it compares their pictures with the faces in your photos, on your phone, and suggests names. nothing is applied until you say yes. to stop, tap forget contacts there, and memoe throws away what it kept.

turn cloud checks off or on

open you and choose turn off cloud checks (or turn on cloud checks). when it is off, memoe sends no photo previews. your original photos never leave your phone either way. the details are in the privacy policy.

set up or stop the daily reminder

open clean up, tap the gear icon, and switch daily reminder on or off. you can pick the time there too. if you see “notifications are off”, open the iOS Settings app, go to notifications, choose memoe, and allow notifications.

trips and events: reminders and what they do

after a trip, or an event with a lot of photos, memoe lists it in clean up under trips and events, with piles to sort and an album you can make. it is found on your phone from the dates and places of your photos. to get a reminder a few days later, open clean up, tap the gear icon, and switch remind me to sort them on; you can choose how many days after, and the time is the same as the daily reminder. switch find trips and events off to stop them altogether. if a trip is not really a trip, or you live there now, press and hold it and choose not a trip or this is home now.

find, keep or turn off the albums memoe makes for me

they are in the albums tab, under made for you. open one and tap save to apple photos to keep it in Apple Photos; until then it stays inside memoe, and saving never copies your photos. to hide one, tap the more button and choose dismiss; recently dismissed, under the list, brings it back. to stop them, open you and choose turn off albums for you, or turn off albums after events and trips to stop only the ones made when an event or a trip ends. if you see “notifications are off”, open the iOS Settings app, go to notifications, choose memoe, and allow notifications.

add photos to an album, take them out, or delete an album

open the albums tab. your albums lists every album in Apple Photos; see all opens the full list with a search. open an album and tap more, then add photos to pick photos from your library. memoe says what it did only after it has checked in Photos, for example “added 4 photos” and how many were already there.

to take photos out, tap select, choose them and tap remove. remove from album keeps the photos in your library and in your other albums, and you can undo it for a moment. delete from library sends them to recently deleted, and iOS asks you first. to rename or delete the album itself, tap more; deleting an album keeps its photos. memoe can’t change albums that Photos doesn’t let apps edit, and it says so.

share a trip with friends, or find a shared album

open the trip in clean up (or an album under made for you) and tap share with friends. choose the best photos or all of them, tap share, then choose add to shared album and new shared album in the iOS share sheet and add the people who were there. they add their photos in Apple Photos and need an Apple account. if add to shared album isn’t there, open the iOS Settings app, go to your name, iCloud, photos, and turn on shared albums.

memoe reads the shared albums you are in. they are in the albums tab under shared albums, and in search and people like the rest of your library. memoe only reads them: it never changes one, and a friend’s photo can’t go into one of your albums. to say which person is you, tap which one is you? on home or in people. to stop the notices when friends add photos you are in, open you and choose turn off notices when friends add photos.

go back to an earlier conversation

once there is an earlier one, a history button (a clock with an arrow) appears at the top right of home. tap it to open a conversation, swipe one to delete it, or tap clear to delete them all. conversations are saved on your phone only, and delete account wipes them.

memoe says it needs access to all photos

open the iOS Settings app, choose memoe, tap Photos, and select all Photos. then go back to memoe.

memoe can’t reach the server

check that your iPhone is online and try again in a minute. if you see “please sign in again”, open you, tap sign out, and sign back in with Apple. if it keeps happening, email us.

sign out or delete my account

open you and choose sign out or delete account. deleting asks you to confirm with Apple one more time, then memoe revokes its Sign in with Apple access and wipes what it saved on your phone, including the faces and names, your earlier conversations and the albums it made for you. your photos and albums in Apple Photos aren’t touched.
