Privacy Policy
Last updated September 27, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how CommuteGeek Corp. (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares and protects personal information in memoe: the memoe.co website and waitlist, the memoe app, and texting memoe. We’re based in Alberta, Canada.
memoe hasn’t launched yet. Today, memoe.co collects the waitlist and website information described below. The parts about the app and texting memoe describe how they’ll work once they’re available, and we’ll update this policy if that changes.
The short version
- We use what you connect and tell memoe to run memoe for you. We don’t sell personal information or use it for advertising.
- memoe doesn’t contact the people in your roster unless you choose to send or share something.
- Contacts and calendar access are optional, and you can turn them off at any time.
- Joining the waitlist doesn’t enroll you in the Memoe text program.
- You can ask us to delete your information at any time.
Information you give us
- Waitlist. Your first name, email address and phone number and, if you choose, what describes you (for example, founder or student), where you heard about memoe and a social media handle.
- Account. When you use the app, we create an account for you. If you sign in with Apple, we receive an identifier for your Apple account and, if you choose to share them, your name and email address, which may be a private relay address from Apple.
- What you tell memoe. The messages you send memoe in the app or by text, and the memories, notes, reminders and follow-ups that come from them. These often include information about other people.
- Support. Anything you send us when you contact us.
Contacts and calendar
The memoe app can use your contacts and calendar only if you allow it on your device. You can share only the contacts you pick or all of them, and you can change or turn off access at any time in your device’s settings.
- Contacts: names, organizations and job titles, email addresses, phone numbers, birthdays and contact identifiers. We don’t collect contact notes or postal addresses.
- Calendar: event dates and times, titles, attendees’ names and email addresses, organizers and response status. We don’t store event notes or descriptions by default.
memoe uses this to recognize the people in your life and who you actually spend time with, to get you ready for upcoming meetings, and to notice when it might be worth reaching out.
The memoe app doesn’t ask for access to your location, photos, microphone, email, call history or text message history.
Phone numbers and text messages
If you text memoe, we collect your phone number, which you link by sending a one-time code from your phone; the messages you send memoe and its replies; message details such as times and delivery status; and your text message choices, including when and how you opted in or out and the disclosure you were shown.
We use the phone number you give when joining the waitlist to contact you about the waitlist and memoe’s launch. Joining the waitlist doesn’t enroll you in the Memoe text program or opt you in to proactive texts: that takes your separate, explicit consent in the app. See our SMS Terms.
We don’t sell or share your mobile phone number or text message opt-in information with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.
Information collected automatically
- On memoe.co: the pages you visit and the steps you take in the waitlist signup; a random visitor ID and visit ID kept in your browser’s storage; how you found us, such as a referral code, campaign tags or the site that linked to us; your device type, browser, language, time zone and screen size; and your approximate location (your country, plus region and city when you join the waitlist), which our hosting provider works out from your IP address.
- In the app: technical and usage information, such as your app version, device type, errors and which features you use. We design app analytics to leave out the content of your memories and messages and the names and contact details of people in your roster.
- Subscriptions: if you subscribe, Apple tells us your subscription status and history. Apple handles payment, and we don’t receive your card details.
- Notifications: if you turn them on, a push token from Apple so we can send them.
memoe.co doesn’t use cookies to track visitors, doesn’t use third-party analytics or advertising tools, and doesn’t store your IP address with your signup or visits. You can reset the visitor ID by clearing your browser’s data for memoe.co.
How we use information
- To provide memoe: build your private roster, remember what you tell it, answer your questions, and create reminders, suggestions and meeting prep.
- To run texting memoe: link your number, reply to your texts, send texts you’ve opted in to, and honor opt-outs.
- To run the waitlist: hold your spot, make your referral link, learn how people find memoe, and tell you when memoe is ready for you.
- To keep memoe safe and working: prevent abuse and fraud, fix problems, and understand and improve how memoe is used.
- To contact you about your account, your requests, and changes to memoe or this policy.
- To comply with the law and enforce our Terms.
We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t use it for targeted advertising.
How memoe uses AI
memoe uses AI models to understand your messages, suggest memories, and word its suggestions and drafts. To do that, relevant information from your account, such as what you’ve told memoe about the person you’re asking about, is sent to our AI provider (currently OpenAI), which processes it to produce a response for us.
AI can get things wrong, so memoe is built to show where what it knows came from and to let you correct or delete it.
People in your roster
memoe holds information about people who don’t use memoe, because you imported them from your contacts or calendar or told memoe about them. We use it only to provide memoe to you. We don’t combine it with other users’ information, use it to contact those people, or use it to market to them. If you think memoe holds information about you through someone else’s account, contact us.
Where information is stored
We’re based in Canada, and our service providers may store and process information in Canada, the United States and other countries. Privacy laws there may differ from the laws where you live, and information stored there may be accessible to authorities under local law. Contact us to learn more about how our service providers outside Canada handle personal information.
Security
We use safeguards suited to how sensitive the information is, including encryption in transit and access controls that keep each person’s memoe data separate from everyone else’s. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your information, we’ll notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
How long we keep information
- Account, roster, memories and conversations: until you delete them or your account.
- Waitlist information: until you ask us to delete it, or until we no longer need it for the waitlist and memoe’s launch.
- Text message consent and opt-out records: as long as we need them to honor your choices and meet legal requirements, which can be after your account is deleted.
Our service providers may keep copies for limited periods under their own policies; for example, our text messaging provider keeps message logs.
Your choices and rights
- Access and correction. Ask us for a copy of your personal information, or to correct it.
- Deletion. Delete memories or your account in the app, or ask us to delete your information, including your waitlist signup. Deleting your account deletes your memoe data, except records the law requires us to keep.
- Device permissions. Turn contacts, calendar or notifications on or off in your device’s settings.
- Texts. Reply STOP to stop texts from memoe, or turn off proactive texts in the app. See our SMS Terms.
- Withdrawing consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual limits. Some features may stop working.
To make a request, email info@commutegeek.com. We may need to confirm your identity, and we’ll respond within the time the law requires. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the privacy regulator where you live, such as the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Children
memoe is for people 18 and older. It isn’t directed to children, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We’ll post changes on this page and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll let you know before it takes effect, for example in the app or by email.
